John Krasinski is getting even closer to nabbing the role that could propel him into action hero stardom ... Captain America!

Insiders at the Marvel compound tell Fox 411 that he is close to landing the superhero gig of his life. John, who plays Jim on "The Office," has appeared in front of producers repeatedly since the start of the new year and since rumors began in February.

"John has read 4 times and is doing screen tests," our source tells us. "He has screen tested 2 times so far. It's very likely that he will be the new Captain America. He is a favorite among the key decision makers and has been asked to come back for more this week."

At this point, Krasinski is the main focus at Marvel.

Love The Office and think Krasinski is a fine actor, but just not feelin' him as Captain America.

Abso-fucking-lutely not. This would be as bad a casting choice as the dude they got for Eddie Brock. No damn way, PLEASE MARVEL! They've made great casting choices so far and I'm hoping this is nothing more than the Hollywood rumor mill churning out stuff..

Here's the thing though.. how are they going to do pre serum and post serum Steve Rogers? The difference between the characters in build is huge. It's not like with Tobey Maguire. Peter Parker didn't gain body mass or the sort. Steve Rogers seriously filled OUT when he took the Super Soldier serum.

Johnny Storm, Johnny Blaze, Johnny whoever both muthas are on fire, and having the dude who played Human Torch in FF4 turn around and be Captain America is dumb, IMO.

Next up, Hugh Jackman will be playing Kraven in the new Spider-Man. From there, Jessica Alba will be playing the White Queen. Let's get Michael Chiklis to be The Leader.

LOL Well he's definitely a step UP from the shit that was Jim from the Office. I do agree that they could have found better choices, especially because this guy already has a HUGE strike against him for being Johnny Storm, one of the most outright gay as hell characters in the Marvel Universe. The fact that he portrayed him so well in the movie is not a lash to his acting capabilities, it's just it makes me hate him more because he nailed him so spot on. I HATE JOHNNY STORM!

On the plus side, he is a good actor and he does have a great look for both pre serum and post serum Steve Rogers. He has that physique, like Tobey did, where he could fool you into thinking he's not that buff and then come out all ripped and shit! Plus, from what I've read, he's a huge comic books guy so hopefully he'll hit it spot on.

To be honest, the Fantastic Four movies sucked and the sooner the far superior Marvel movies come out, the better. Wash out that shit. I can't wait for Thor and Captain America and the fucking AVENGERS MOVIE BABY! Marvel's playing it smart. They are signing up EVERYONE to come back to the Avengers.
